Photobiomodulation also known as low intensity laser therapy (LLLT) and cold laser therapy, is a medical procedure in which exposure to low level laser is said to enhance tissue growth. While the origin of laser theory is attributed to Albert Einstein, the technique of cold laser therapy was developed by Hungarian scientist Endre Mester in 1967.

The technique is fairly simple: monochromatic light is emitted from a low intensity laser diode (250 milliwatts or less) or an array of high intensity super luminous diodes (providing total optical power in the 1000-2000 milliwatt range. The conditions for which it is popularly used include soft tissue injuries, chronic pain, nerve regeneration. Some have even advocated it in the case of bacterial and viral infections; Herpes for one, but here the technique remains largely unproven. The primary benefits of this technology is its non-invasive and non-toxic nature with claimed cure rates of more than 95%.

Bioflex systems are manufactured by Meditech international. According to the manufacturers, it is the most advanced low laser system currently available. Its website lists the different type of equipment available from professional equipment suitable for medical practitioners to equipment which may be used at home. Spare parts as well training is available from the company it self making it a ”one-stop shop”.

The company’s website is well-designed with information for practitioners as well as patients. The look is clean and information is fairly easy to locate. It has a clinician section with testimonials from practitioners who have used Bioflex equipment. While it is indeed true that relying solely on testimonials listed on the company website would hardly be prudent, it does establish that the company’s products have been previously used. It also has a research section with case-listings. Perhaps, the best feature is the live-chat though it seems to be unavailable on the weekends.

Overall, a useful resource for practitioners and users of low intensity laser therapy.
